Embossing Embossing means to raise an image. There are two types of embossing. Wet embossing is done by using either an embossing pad or a pigment based ink pad. Then you shake embossing powder over the image. Shake excess embossing powder back into the jar. With an embossing gun (this is not a hair dryer) heat the image until the embossing powder melts. This image will be raised from your paper. Dry embossing is using a round tip tool (embossing tool) to press paper up. Usually this is done with a light table, a stencil, and paper on top. Place the stencil on the light source and secure. Position your paper over the stencil and use the stylus to go around the openings you want. (When the light table is turned on, the artist can see where to press with the embossing tool.) This raises the image from the original paper. When embossing on vellum, if you really want it to pop, don't just go around the image, use your stylus to shade in the entire open area...it will turn your image white and raise it! Thanks to Cindy Walker for some added explanation to the dry embossing technique. |
